Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series Heading To Australia Capped At 28 Units And Costing AU$769,900

The Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series is heading to Australia, but only in limited numbers – and it has already been sold out.

According to the automaker’s local arm, just 28 examples will be imported to the coutry and all have already been allocated to customers. Just like other markets, it won’t be cheap. In fact, the 28 lucky Aussies to have received an allocation will need to cough up at least AU$769,900 (US$565,161). To put that into perspective, the Mercedes-AMG GT R Pro is available from AU$453,200 (US$321,409) and is actually rarer in Australia, capped at just 15 units.

Thus, the Black Series represents a huge leap in price over other AMG GT variants, so it’s only fitting that it’s something very special.

Things start under the hood, where AMG has comprehensively modified its twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 and fitted a flat-plane crank, bigger turbochargers and other upgrades that result in it delivering 720 hp and 590 lb-ft (800 Nm) of torque.

Paired to this raging V8 is an updated seven-speed dual-clutch transmission designed to handle the extra grunt. Mercedes quotes a 0-62 mph (100 km/h) time of 3.2 seconds, 0-124 mph (0-200 km/h) in less than 9 seconds, and a top speed of 202 mph (350 km/h).

The GT Black Series is about much more than straight-line performance, though. For example, it comes with a plethora of parts designed to provide as much downforce as possible, such as a carbon fiber front splitter, front canards and a towering rear wing, as well as unique side skirts and a distinctive diffuser.

The first examples of the Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series will hit Australian shores in the second quarter of 2021.
