Tesla is looking to ramp up its sales as the end of the year approaches by offering generous showroom discounts.
Electrek reports that a number of Tesla owners have received emails for local dealerships offering up to $30,000 off the original configuration price of Model S and Model X P100D vehicles. Additionally, the email says that the range-topping Tesla vehicles can be leased for as little as $1,500 a month for the Model S P100D and $1,600 a month for the Model X P100D.
Elon Musk was once firm in his assertion that Tesla showrooms wouldn’t offer discounts or room for negotiation but at the end of 2016, the electric automaker publicized a number of discounts in order to boost sales. It seems to be doing the same in the third-quarter of 2017.
Importantly, prospective Tesla buyers shouldn’t expect to simply walk into a showroom and get a $30,000 discount. Electrek points out that the email says the discounts are applied to the original configuration price, meaning the vehicle’s configuration may have cost more than it would if ordered today. Additionally, it is likely that Tesla is advertising these discounts on “new inventory” models which could have as little as 50 miles on the clock or up to a few thousand.
Update: A Tesla spokesperson has confirmed to us that there are no discounts being offered for new Model S or Model X vehicles. Read the updated story here.
