If the 2021 Cadillac Escalade is too plebeian for your tastes, you’ll be happy to know the Mercedes-Maybach GLS 600 4MATIC will arrive at U.S. dealerships later this year.

Carrying a base price of $160,500 – excluding a $1,050 destination and delivery fee – the Mercedes-Maybach GLS promises to be the ultimate in luxury.

As part of the makeover, the GLS has been equipped with a revised grille and a Mercedes-Benz hood ornament. Other highlights include additional chrome trim, power retractable running boards and 22-inch wheels. Those looking for something more exclusive can opt for a two-tone paint job and larger 23-inch forged alloy wheels.

Of course, the crossover’s most distinctive feature is its four seat interior. The two rear seats are separated by a center console feature heating, ventilation and massage functions.  Speaking of the console, it houses folding tray tables in case you want to get a little work done on your journey.

That’s just the tip of the iceberg as the model has heated and cooled cupholders as well as wireless smartphone chargers front and rear. Other highlights include a 7-inch tablet, a four-zone climate control system and a “wooden parcel shelf that separates the interior from the spacious luggage compartment.”

There’s also a Nappa leather roof liner, an Air Balance fragrance system and an optional refrigerated compartment for bubbly. That’s on top of fairly traditional features such as a Burmester 3D surround sound system and 12.3-inch displays.

While Maybachs are commonly associated with V12 engines, the GLS features a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 that produces 550 hp (410 kW / 558 PS) and 538 lb-ft (729 Nm) of torque. The model also has an EQ Boost starter generator which can deliver an additional 21 hp (16 kW / 21 PS) and 184 lb-ft (249 Nm) for short periods of time. Thanks to this setup, the GLS can accelerate from 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) in just 4.8 seconds.

Since comfort is king, the model has been equipped with an E-Active Body Control suspension which “scans the road ahead to proactively counteract bumps and dips for a supremely smooth ride.” There’s also a Maybach Dynamic Select drive program that focuses on rear passenger comfort by minimizing body roll.

It remains to be seen if the model is worth twice as much as GLS 450, but at least it undercuts the Bentley Bentayga.
