Hummers were once a common sight in suburbia, but the brand was phased out as part of GM’s bankruptcy which also saw Pontiac, Saturn and Saab fall by the wayside.
While the company originally tried to sell Hummer, the deal fell through and the last H3 rolled off the assembly line in 2010.
Fast forward to today and Hummer is being reborn as a GMC sub-brand which will eschew its gas guzzler past by being fully electric. The truck also promises to be far more powerful than previous Hummers as the company has already confirmed it will have 1,000 hp (746 kW / 1,014 PS) and be able to accelerate from 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) in three seconds flat.

GMC has been tight-lipped about additional specifications, but the truck will use Ultium batteries and GM has previously said their battery packs will have capacities ranging from 50 to 200 kWh. While there’s no word on how far the Hummer can travel, GM has said their electric trucks will have 800-volt technology and a 350 kW fast-charging capability.
Besides the impressive performance, the GMC Hummer EV promises to be more fun than your traditional pickup. As previously announced, the model will have removable roof panels to provide a open-air experience like the one found in the Jeep Gladiator.
While full details will be announced shortly, the truck will be built at Factory Zero and launched in the fall of 2021. The model is also slated to be followed by an electric SUV and hopefully we’ll learn more about it shortly.
