As Bugatti is putting the finishing touches to the Chiron Pur Sport, it took some of its prototypes to the Hockenheimring circuit in Germany shortly after a round of testing at Nardo.
The French car manufacturer says it has conducted more than 50,000 km (31,000 miles) of testing with the Pur Sport over the last 18 months. At Hockenheimring, Bugatti is giving a handful of journalists and customers the chance to experience the track-focused variant of the Chiron for themselves.
“The technical specifications are far more than just numbers. Bugatti customers need to experience them to fully understand the incredible acceleration force,” Bugatti president Stephan Winkelmann said. “I am therefore delighted that we are able to present our new hyper sports car to customers and journalists on and off the race track. Customers absolutely must experience this unbelievable power and lateral dynamics on a race track. However, it is not designed just as a pure race car, it offers a great deal of comfort, luxury and everyday usability alongside its tremendous power.”

Bugatti unveiled the Chiron Pur Sport shortly before the Geneva Motor Show was canceled in early March. Like the standard Chiron, the Pur Sport features an 8.0-liter quad-turbocharged W16 pumping out 1,479 hp, although the automaker did go to the trouble of increasing the redline by 200 rpm, to 6,900 rpm.
Modifications have also been made to the transmission, with 15 per cent closer gear ratios to improve power delivery and engine response.
The Pur Sport also gets 65 per cent stiffer front springs, 33 per cent stiffer rear springs, adaptive damping and upgraded brakes. It also features lightweight Aero wheels sitting on bespoke Bugatti Sport Cup 2 R tires developed by Michelin.
Production of the Pur Sport will be capped at just 60 units, with prices starting at €3.2 million ($3.78 million) excluding VAT.
