The 2021 Ram 1500 TRX recently landed and looks to have what it takes to beat Ford’s F-150 Raptor. So, is it up to the task? Let’s find out.
Shortly after Ram started to hand over the keys of the 1500 TRX to journalists in the U.S., The Fast Lane Truck found themselves behind the wheel of one and promptly set about comparing it to the F-150 Raptor. More specifically, they wanted to see how the two fare in a straight-line.
Sure, the F-150 Raptor and Ram 1500 TRX are about much more than 0-60 mph (96 km/h) times, but there’s no doubt that performance is one of the selling points of these two trucks.

First, the figures. Powering the outgoing F-150 Raptor is a 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged EcoBoost V6 that delivers 450 hp and is paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission. By comparison, the 6.2-liter supercharged V8 of the TRX is rated at 702 hp and is coupled to an eight-speed automatic.
To make the comparison as even as possible, the reviewers didn’t use the launch control system of the TRX. First up was the F-150, which recorded best 0-60 mph times of 7.02 seconds and 7.74 seconds during its two runs. Then it was the turn of the Ram 1500 TRX. In its first run, it needed just 5.17 seconds to hit 60 mph, and in the second it took 5.66 seconds to hit the same mark.
FCA claims the TRX can hit 60 mph in 4.5 seconds, but that’s with the launch control system enabled; besides, times in the 5-second range are very respectable without the system activated.
