We don’t often have the opportunity to see car reviews of Chinese cars filmed in English, so this video from Fully Charged is quite interesting.
The object of the following review is the Baojun E300 all-electric city car built by the SAIC-GM-Wuling joint venture.
Since its launch in China this summer, we’ve been intrigued by the combination of concept car looks and cheap pricing. Believe it or not, the Baojun E300 starts from the equivalent of nearly $9,700 in standard wheelbase form, while the E300 Plus long-wheelbase variant is priced from under $10,500. Mind you, we’re talking about a really small car, as even the LWB model is just under 2.9 meters (114 in) long.

That said, the E300 Plus manages to accommodate four adult passengers, though those unlucky enough to occupy the rear seats will be rather uncomfortable. With the rear seats in place, there’s no storage volume at all, but that’s to be expected from a car of this size. The reviewer was impressed by the Baojun E300 Plus’ excellent visibility, spot-on driving position and ergonomic controls, even though the materials found in the cabin are pretty basic.
So how is the tiny Chinese EV like to drive then? Surprisingly fun, says the reviewer, who appreciated the rear-wheel-drive setup, balanced chassis, and excellent maneuverability. As for the driving range, he says the NEDC range of up to 305 km (190 miles) is quite accurate in city driving only, especially in a bustling metropolis like Shanghai where you can’t really drive faster than 40 km/h (25 mph).
Things sound promising so far, but the Baojun E300 Plus has quite a few shortcomings too; we’ll let you discover them by watching the following video.
