The BMW M2 CS and Jaguar F-Type aren’t exactly direct rivals, but since they are both performance coupes, we might as well see how they stack up against each other.

If not the, one of the Bavarian firm’s most balanced performance models, the M2 CS is powered by a twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter straight-six that’s good for 444 HP (450 PS / 331 kW) and 406 lb-ft (550 Nm) of torque. It does the nought to 60 mph (0-96 km/h) sprint in 4 seconds dead when equipped with the six-speed manual transmission, dropping to 3.8 seconds with the seven-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT), and maxes out at 174 mph (280 km/h).

Across the English Channel, Jaguar’s F-Type has a supercharged 5.0-liter V8, developing an identical 444 HP (450 PS / 331 kW), but a bit more torque, at 428 lb-ft (580 Nm). It needs 4.4 seconds to hit the 60 mph (96 km/h) mark from a standstill and has a 177 mph (285 km/h) top speed.

The BMW tips the scales at 3,472 lbs (1,575 kg), which makes it 353 lbs (160 kg) lighter than the Jag. Unlike the M2 CS, though, which is rear-wheel drive, the F-Type is all-wheel drive and also comes with an eight-speed automatic transmission.

Despite weighing more and being slightly slower to 60 (at least on paper), the Jaguar could compensate with its AWD system and fast-shifting gearbox. Enough with the theory, though – let’s see which of the two sport coupes came out on top.
