A plastic burr has sparked a recall at General Motors, which has decided that the defect needs to be fixed by its dealers.

The 2020 Buick Enclave, Cadillac XT5 and XT6, Chevrolet Traverse and GMC Acadia are affected by this safety campaign that covers 2,781 vehicles, out of which around 140 are estimated to have the defect.

In documents released by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), it is explained that, at low fuel levels, the engine may not receive an adequate amount of fuel, possibly leading to stalling. This is blamed on the fuel pump assemblies that were produced with burrs inside the mixing tube, which prevent the transfer of fuel from the secondary to the primary side of the tank. The component manufacturer is Vitesco Technologies of Mexico.

GM is apparently unaware of any accidents or injuries related to this defect. It has already informed dealers and the next step is to reach out to owners of the affected vehicles. The planned owner notification date is November 30, which is also when the recall is expected to begin.

To get rid of the problem, the authorized technicians will replace the fuel pump module. Also, reimbursements will not be offered, as the vehicles are still covered by the warranty and will be fixed free of charge.
