Customer deliveries of the 2021 Toyota GR Yaris have started in various markets around the world and one Australian tuning shop has already given it some slight mods.
As standard, the 1.6-liter turbocharged three-cylinder engine of the GR Yaris delivers 257 hp and 265 lb-ft (360 Nm) of torque, which are sent to all four wheels via a six-speed manual transmission.
This particular GR Yaris has been fitted with a custom catback exhaust system and is running a new K&N air filter. In addition, it is sitting on lightweight Weds TC105X 18×9.5 wheels wrapped in 255/35 tires. No details are given about what exact tires these are, but they’re probably stickier than the standard rubber and help put power to the tarmac more efficiently.

During a handful of runs at a drag strip just outside of Melbourne, the shop was able to record a best quarter-mile time of 12.84 seconds at 105 mph (169 km/h). Toyota hasn’t released an official quarter-mile time for the stock car, but tests have shown that it can run times in the high 13-second range, on par with the more powerful Honda Civic Type R.
Given how popular the GR Yaris is proving to be among car enthusiasts, there’s no doubt the aftermarket scene will soon explode with upgrades. Think bigger turbochargers, aftermarket limited-slip differentials and brake upgrades as tuners look to eke out as much performance as possible.
