I firmly believe that any car with a V10 will someday become a classic. And while you’re pointing out that the Ford Triton V10 exists, I’ll just say that not every V10 will become a classic as quickly as the Lexus LFA.

This 2012 example, chassis number 095, is up for sale by Hyper Voitures and has an asking price of $680,000. That’s a pretty tidy profit for whoever bought it because it cost a little less than $400,000 when new. Mind you, the Pearl Brown paint (against an orange leather interior) might not be the most flattering, but then again, that’s totally subjective.

There’s more to the LFA than its the number of cylinders, though. How fast they spin (up to 9,000 rpm) is also a part of the its appeal. Said to rev so quickly that a traditional dial could not keep up, it features an early example of the digital dash that is now de rigueur.

The LFA’s 4.8-liter V10 produces 560 hp and can propel the Japanese supercar up to 202 mph. In addition to the power and the glory of its howling, the engine’s cam covers are below the tops of the wheels. That helps keep the center of mass way down low in the car and is evidence of how all out Toyota went on the development of this car. Despite having a bigger displacement and four more cylinders, the LFA’s engine package is somehow more compact than Toyota’s 3.5-liter V6 was at the time.

Nevertheless, even though Toyota and Lexus went nuts designing the LFA, this particular example has barely been driven, as its odo shows just 1,728 km (1,073 miles). Here’s hoping that its next owner will get to enjoy driving it instead of making it a garage queen.
