2021 VW Golf GTI Gains Clubsport Levels Of Power, Does 0-62 MPH In 5.3 Seconds

The new generation of the Volkswagen Golf GTI, which is getting ready to blow one candle off its birthday cake, has attracted the interest of DTE.

The German tuner is the latest to offer an upgrade for the German hot hatch, and their proposal is a software tune dubbed the PowerControl X. Priced at £549 ($749) in the United Kingdom, it increases the car’s output and torque by 56 PS (55 HP / 41 kW) and 47 Nm (35 lb-ft), improving the acceleration time by approximately 1.0 second.

As a result, the 2.0-liter TSI engine pumps out 301 PS (297 HP / 221 kW) and 418 Nm (308 lb-ft), and the 0 to 100 km/h (0-62 mph) acceleration takes 5.3 seconds. This means that the tuned Golf GTI is 0.3 seconds faster than the latest Golf GTI Clubsport, which has 1 HP and 18 Nm (13 lb-ft) less. As for the all-wheel drive Golf R, which has 319 PS (315 HP / 235 kW) and 420 Nm (310 lb-ft) of torque, it needs only 4.7 seconds to hit 100 km/h (62 mph) from a standstill.

According to the tuner, the PowerControl X upgrade has a digital feature that matches the digital instrument cluster of the standard Golf GTI, displaying the turbo pressure, revs and rail pressure in real time, and showing a G-force meter. It also comes with an app that allows drivers to adapt the tune to their driving style by switching the extra oomph on or off via their smartphones and changing between the different drive modes. The app also includes a configurable warm-up timer, which lets users decide how long the engine runs on the stock software before the upgrade kicks in.
