The BMW-Glas 3000 V8’s story is an interesting one to say the least. Back in the 1960’s, BMW acquired fellow carmaker Hans Glas GmbH, and from 1967 to 1968, they produced just 389 units of the 3000 V8. Additionally, it’s one of only 6 (or 7 depending on how you look at it) BMW models never to wear the brand’s iconic kidney grille.

This one is listed for sale on Bring a Trailer, and it has 51,727 miles (83,246 km) on the odometer, 400 of which were covered by the selling dealer. It was said to have been imported to the US after spending some of its life in a German museum, which would partially explain that relatively low mileage. Since it was purchased by the selling dealer in September of last year, it’s had its braking system serviced and carburetor adjusted to prepare it for sale. It also includes spare extra timing belts, gaskets, and ignition components.

The car is finished in red, and has a Talbot fender mirror, front and rear fog lamps, and silver-finished 14-inch steel wheels with chrome hubcaps and BMW roundels. Inside, the upholstery is a two-tone finish of black vinyl and beige corduroy. Aside from the usual speedometer, tachometer, fuel gauge, the instrument cluster also includes gauges for oil temperature, water temperature, and oil pressure. The interior also includes such creature comforts as shoulder belts, a heater, and a Becker Grand Prix tri-band radio.

Under the hood lies a 2,892cc Glas-developed V8 engine that sends its power to the rear wheels via a four-speed manual transmission. The engine has dual overhead cams, a triple-barrel downdraft carburetor, and Glas-branded valve covers in addition to an electronic ignition system.
