Some 2020 Mercedes GLEs Might Have A Stuck Reverse Light, While Handful Of SUVs May Have Unsecured Dash

Mercedes-Benz has announced two separate recalls impacting certain GLE and GLS models in the United States.

The first recall involves a lighting control unit that may malfunction and cause the left exterior reverse light to remain illuminated after the transmission is shifted out of reverse. This means affected vehicles do not comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 108, ‘Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment.’

The recall affects 8,186 vehicles. Of these, 7,500 are 2020 GLE350 models produced between April 9, 2019 and March 19, 2020, while the remaining 686 vehicles involved are 2020 GLE450 models manufactured between April 9, 2019 and March 19, 2020.

Mercedes-Benz will replace the defective control unit on affected vehicles free of charge. Owners will be notified of the voluntary recall campaign, which will begin on April 6, by the automaker.

The second recall affects just 8 vehicles

As for the second recall, it impacts the 2021 Mercedes-AMG GLE53, 2020 GLE350, 2020 GLE450, and GLS450 but in total, just eight vehicles are being recalled. This includes one GLS450, five GLE350s, one GLE450, and one GLE53.

Mercedes-Benz states that dashboard surfaces of those vehicles may not be properly secured to the base material and might not meet current production specifications. More specifically, the automaker says due to insufficient adhesion, the inflation of the passenger airbag could be impacted in the event of a crash.

Owners will be notified by Mercedes-Benz USA and dealers will replace the dashboard on affected vehicles. The recall will commence on April 6.
