Customer deliveries of the 2021 BMW M4 only just began and it is already speculated that a CSL variant could be coming our way.
The last M model to use the CSL (Coupe Sport Lightweight) designation was the 2004 M3 CSL Coupe and ever since its retirement, enthusiasts have been clamoring for a new CSL. In recent years, we’ve seen the launch of various Competition, CS, and GTS models from BMW M, but no CSL. That could soon change.
A member from the Bimmer Post forums claims to have received word that production of an M4 CSL will start as early as July 2022 and only be built for a limited time.

Very few details about the rumored M4 CSL are known. If it indeed happens, BMW would likely want to position it as the most driver-focused variant of the M4 and as such, it might be based on the rear-wheel drive variant of the standard model rather than the Competition variant that is sold exclusively in all-wheel drive configuration.
Power would inevitably come from the same twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six and it’s reasonable to assume BMW would massage this engine to deliver more than the 503 hp and 479 lb-ft (650 Nm) of the M3/M4 Competition. Other upgrades will probably be made to the vehicle’s suspension and braking systems, while the German car manufacturer can also be expected to spend a considerable amount of its development budget on the car ensuring that it is lighter than the standard model.
