The design of the C8 Corvette, the first ever mid-engined model in the nameplate’s history, has been kind of divisive. Noted car designer Chip Foose has many qualms with the exterior styling of the sports car and has done his best to refine it and make it look more like a Corvette of old.

During this detailed video, Foose says he is fully supportive of Chevrolet moving the Corvette away from a front-engined layout to a mid-engined one, but believes the automaker’s designers could have done a better job on the car’s looks.

Foose starts out by altering the proportions of the Corvette. While he kept the nose similar to the C8, he made some radical modifications to the doors of the car. For example, he has altered the side air intakes of the C8 in favor of a designmore reminiscent of what the C7 had, albeit flipped backwards and placed in front of the rear wheels rather than behind the front ones.

The designer has also extended the car’s roofline and fitted larger side windows, changes that overhaul the overall look of the C8 Corvette. Foose has also made an effort to increase the mass of the vehicle’s rear and fitted a body-colored rear spoiler. He also altered the shape of the taillights to be more reminiscent of those from the C7, rather than the units on the C8 that Foose believes look like Lamborghini taillights.

So, what do you think of Foose’s overhauled C8 design? Do you like it or do you prefer the C8 ‘Vette just as it is?
