You can’t think of hot hatches and not mention the VW Golf GTI. The latest generation of the fast German hatchback might have failed at sparking a new fire at the belly of hardcore hot hatch buyers, but this is where the more powerful Clubsport version is targeting.

In addition, the Golf GTI Clubsport features an electromechanical locking differential and a suspension with upgraded adaptive DCC dampers that not only offer 15 settings between Comfort and Sport but also have a special ‘Nurburging’ mode. However, don’t expect a manual gearbox, as the Clubsport is available only with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.
The Honda Civic Type R has been enjoying the hot hatch crown for some years now, mostly thanks to its excellent handling and charismatic 316 hp turbocharged engine. The fact that it comes with one of the sweetest manual transmissions on the market is just the cherry on top.

Mind you, the fact that the latter comes with a much more modern interior and clever tech that helps you go around bends quicker doesn’t necessarily mean that the Japanese winged warrior with the challenging looks has lost its magic touch.
