A few months after being unveiled overseas, Hyundai has launched the 2021 Sonata N Line in Australia.
Powering the sporty variant of the Sonata is the company’s Smartstream 2.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with 213 kW (285 hp) and 422 Nm (311 lb-ft) of torque that’s coupled to an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission sending power to the front wheels. The engine features a water-to-air intercooler, variable separate cooling of the cylinder block and head, and an integrated exhaust manifold in the cylinder head.

Like all other Hyundai models sold in Australia, the Sonata N Line receives a specific suspension tune to ensure it is well-suited to local roads. It also features four driving modes, named Normal, Sport, Sport+, and Custom.
Safety features are found in abundance in the Sonata N Line and include Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist, High Beam Assist, Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist, Driver Attention Warning, Lane Keeping Assist, Lane Following Assist, Safe Exit Assist, Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist, Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist-Junction Turning, and Smart Cruise Control with Stop & Go. There’s also a Blind Spot View Monitor that displays live video of the blind spot zones on the digital instrument cluster, and a Surround View Monitor.
Other key features include a Bose premium audio system with 12 speakers and power-adjustable driver and front passenger seats with heated and ventilated functions. Included as standard on all 2021 Sonata models in Australia is a large dual-panel panoramic glass sunroof and wireless charging.
“Sonata is a pillar of the Hyundai range, and the model’s evolution over eight generations into the stylish, all-new 2021 model represents our commitment to creating the ideal medium sedan,” Hyundai Motor Company Australia chief executive officer Jun Heo said. “Striking coupe-like styling, a premium cabin, advanced safety and technology, and a powerful all-new 2.5 Turbo engine ensure the all-new Sonata N Line is our best Sonata yet.”
Local pricing for the car starts at AU$50,990 (US$40,040) and the only available option is Metallic / Mica paint for an extra AU$595 (US$467).
