NASCAR Cup Series phenom Joey Logano races one of Ford’s most modern race cars on the oval and drives one of its oldest vehicles on the road.
In his latest Carography video, Logano teaches you how to drive what he calls his favorite car in his collection: a 1924 Ford Model T.
And it’s a proper classic. Logano says he’s done almost nothing to it to make it more modern. The engine has 20 “really big horsepower,” and that’s probably enough.
With its straight axles, its leaf springs, and its tall, skinny tires Logano says you really have to drive a Model T. Even driving slowly, if you hit a bump the wrong way you can get caster wobble. That would be scary at the best of times, but in a car that kind of wants to fall over anyway, it’s extra scary.

With a top speed of about 25 mph, Logano says it “feels like you’re going a buck 80 but, you know, 25’s about all you want in this thing.”
As for controls, the Model T drives more like a tractor than a modern car. If you’ve ever seen the steering wheel and thought “That looks backward,” it’s to keep your hands nearer the throttle lever and the ignition timing lever.
Like a tractor, you just set the throttle with the lever and mostly leave it alone while you’re moving. You do have to adjust it when you’re coming to a stop, though. There is an actual braking pedal that, counterintuitively to modern drivers, is the rightmost pedal.
The variety of pedals and levers and their distribution across the cabin means that when you’re moving along, there’s a lot to keep in mind. This is a car that rewards a calm driver and punishes panic.
As such, it seems like a riot to drive. Just as long as you can get into a comfortable modern car, like a Ford GT, to get into when you’re done having fun.
