Cadillac confirmed that it intends to launch more V-Series and Blackwing models moving forward.
While the Blackwing name was first used to denote the short-lived twin-turbo 4.2-liter V8 used exclusively in the CT6-V, it has since been adopted by flagship variants of the CT4-V and CT5-V. Other Cadillac models will also receive the Blackwing nameplate, chief engineer Tony Roma recently told GM Authority.
“Blackwing is reserved for really the pinnacle, the purest expression of performance, track capability, and that’s what it’s going to stand for going forward,” Roma said. “[The CT4-V Blackwing and CT5-V Blackwing] won’t be the last Blackwing cars that we do, but you won’t see one on every vehicle. It’s not appropriate. I couldn’t imagine doing an Escalade-V Blackwing. Maybe we’d do an SUV, maybe we’d do an Escalade-V, who knows.”

According to reports, a potential Escalade V model could feature the same 6.2-liter LT4 supercharged V8 engine as the CT5-V Blackwing but would do without the track-oriented performance upgrades and, therefore, not feature the Blackwing nameplate.
Speaking about the V-Series brand more broadly, Roma confirmed that it too will grow: “The V-Series lineup has expanded. You’re going to see more of that in the future. We’re going to do more V-Series. It’s important to our brand and you’ll see it on other products.”
For lovers of high-performance Cadillacs, this is great news and proves that while the car manufacturer is venturing into the world of electric vehicles, it will continue to produce performance-focused models for quite some time.
