Cupra Formentor And Polestar 2 Awarded Five-Star Rating In Euro NCAP Crast Tests

Euro NCAP has just published its first safety ratings of the year for two new models: the Cupra Formentor and Polestar 2.

Both of them were awarded the maximum five stars, scoring good in adult and child occupant and pedestrian protection, and being praised for their safety assist features.

The Cupra Formentor scored 93 percent in the Adult Occupant and 88 percent in the Child Occupant categories. For the Vulnerable Road Users and Safety Assist, it scored 68 and 80 percent respectively. The European safety agency tested a left-hand drive 1.5-liter petrol model with a curb weight of 1,362 kg (3,003 lbs), but the rating applies to all Formentors.

For the Polestar 2, they chose a left-hand drive, long-range dual-motor model, which weighs 2,173 kg (4,791 lbs), and it scored 92 and 89 percent in the Adult and Child occupant protection respectively, and 80 percent for the Pedestrian and 86 percent for the Safety Assist.

“We are now a year on from when Covid became a global pandemic and the car industry has had a torrid twelve months. Sales are down and carmakers are having to find ways to cut costs and maximize profits”, said Euro NCAP’s secretary general, Michiel van Ratingen. “Euro NCAP is here to ensure that safety is not compromised, and it is rewarding that these two brands should place it high on their agendas. By now, safety is central to manufacturers’ strategies and they know that it is an area where consumers will not accept a drop in standards.”

Besides testing the two vehicles, Euro NCAP has also updated the ratings of the Renault Arkana, which is based on the Captur, and the Lexus UX 300e, both of which were awarded a five-star safety rating.
