The 2022 Hyundai Tucson has a design radically different than its predecessor and by purely looking at the new SUV, it would be easy to assume it is far sportier than the old model. Is this actually the case?
After receiving the keys to a new Tucson Hybrid, which sported adaptive dampers, Spanish publication KM77 put it to test in the moose test that has been shown time and time again to push new vehicles to, and sometimes beyond, their limits.

In the first test, the driver of the Tucson tried to perform the maneuver at 47 mph (76 km/h) but was unable to get through without hitting the cones. After a handful of other attempts, the fastest speed achieved was 44 mph (71 km/h), which is not quite up to the level of some other SUVs. For example, the likes of the Volkswagen Tiguan and Subaru Forester have both run through the moose test at 48 mph (77 km/h).
Shoppers in the U.S. have a handful of powertrain options available for the 2022 Tucson. The hybrid sits in the middle of the range and comes outfitted with a turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine working alongside an electric motor and producing a combined 226 hp and 258 lb-ft (350 Nm) of torque. Sitting below this variant is the entry-level 2.5-liter four-cylinder with 187 and 178 lb-ft (241 Nm) while topping out the range is the plug-in hybrid that’s good for 261 hp.
