Ford began building pre-production models of its new small pickup truck in Mexico in recent weeks and these new renderings from Kolesa provide us with an excellent idea of what the finished truck will look like.
Reportedly named the Maverick (though, not officially confirmed yet), the new pickup is based on Ford’s C2 platform, also used by the Escape and Bronco Sport that is built in the same Mexican factory.
As our own renderings also show, the Ford Maverick will have a design quite different than the current Ranger, its larger pickup sibling. Dominating the front end of the unibody compact pickup will be a pair of C-shaped headlights that seamlessly join with the blacked-out grille. The Maverick depicted in these renderings also has a simple black front bumper with two visible two hooks.
The rear of the Maverick showcased here sports similar taillights to the Ford Bronco Sport and has also been rendered with two different wheel designs. As always with illustrations of this kind, it’s impossible to know just how accurate they will prove to be until the Maverick is unveiled, but we understand they are pretty close to the real deal as you can see from the image below taken from the factory.

At least two powertrains are tipped to be offered for the Maverick, consisting of 1.5-liter EcoBoost and 2.0-liter EcoBoost units. Entry-level models should be sold with front-wheel drive while all-wheel drive and an automatic transmission will be options.
In addition to being sold in the United States, the Maverick should be offered throughout Central and South America. It will be available with a four-door crew cab body.
Pricing details remain unconfirmed but it will be more affordable than the Ranger which starts from $26,015 in the U.S.
