New Spy Shots Of Electric Mercedes EQE Reveal More Of Its Fluid Styling

We’re finally getting a good idea of what the Mercedes-Benz EQE production car will look like thanks to the latest spy shots of a less camouflaged test car.

Although the car in these shots is still covered with a wrap, it’s the first time we’ve seen it without any plastic cladding on it designed to obscure its shape. That means that the profile of this car will be the profile of the production car.

We can see that the EQE will have a bit more of a more traditional sedan shape than the EQS. With a separate, albeit small, trunk we can now see that it won’t be quite as much of a liftback as the bigger EQS.

These spy images also do a better job of showing us what the hood will look like. Unlike in previous pictures where the shape had been changed by camouflage, we can see now that the EQE will have a hood that slopes down, presumably for better aerodynamics.

The EQE’s name, once understood, actually makes sense. The EQ part is what Mercedes is using for its EVs, while the “E” in this car’s name will mean that it is roughly equivalent to an E-class. The S in the EQS’s name, meanwhile, means it will compete in the same segment as the S-Class.

Despite that, Mercedes is promising S-Class-levels of interior space for the EQE thanks to the electric platform. With no engine to house, just smaller electric motors and batteries, there’s more room for people inside the cabin.

Both cars will use Mercedes’ Electric Vehicle Platform. The automaker is aiming for 435 miles of range for the larger EQS. That should mean similar amounts range from the EQE, though the smaller car might not quite match the bigger one.

Mercedes plans to unveil the EQE at the Frankfurt Auto Show in September 2021.
