The owner of a Tesla Model 3 has taken to social media to document their saga of being stuck at a Tesla Supercharger for over 15 hours.
The driver initially made a post on Reddit under the alias SeaEnergy about being stuck at a supercharger in Pinellas Park, Florida. He reached out to Tesla support as there was no way to release the charging cable and even after making several attempts to release it, the Model 3 driver made no progress.
A few hours later, SeaEnergy posted an update at 1:30 AM on Reddit, confirming they were still stuck at the supercharger. A video was also shared, showing that the button to unlock the charging cable on the car’s infotainment screen wasn’t working, nor was the mechanical latch found in the trunk.

It wasn’t until 9:30 AM that the owner returned to the car to discover it was fully charged and that the cable could be disconnected. Tesla failed to provide a roadside assistance team to the driver during the long, overnight wait.
In the final update shared, the owner says they received a call from Tesla Service at about 11:30 AM after they had seen the Reddit post go viral. Tesla sent someone to inspect the charging station while in the afternoon, the Model 3 in question was dropped at the nearest service center where Tesla says it will run some tests to try and recreate the issue.
In all likelihood, this was a freak incident that’s only impacted a small number of Tesla owners in the past. Nevertheless, it shows that Supercharging isn’t always an easy process.
