Mercedes-AMG is going all-in on electrification and has made a slew of announcements about its forthcoming hybrid and all-electric models.

A handful of new all-electric AMG models will launch on the Mercedes-EQ architecture and occupy a similar spot in the company’s range to the existing 43 and 53 AMG models.

Each of these new models will feature two independent electric motors with fully variable all-wheel drive and modular torque distribution. Mercedes-AMG says these models will achieve performance on par with its most powerful current 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 models. This means the vehicles will be capable of hitting 60 mph (96 km/h) in well under 4.0 seconds while hitting up to 155 mph (250 km/h).

These models will utilize a 400-volt lithium-ion battery and include a bespoke tune of the AMG Ride Control+ air suspension system. The cars will also feature an exclusive AMG i-Booster function that combines electric recuperation and hydraulic braking during deceleration.

While these new models won’t have the same kind of V8 soundtrack that AMGs have become synonymous for, they will be equipped with a sound package that includes a sound generator and loudspeakers to provide a distinctive sound.

Like ICE models from Mercedes-AMG, these electric models will be differentiated from lesser variants thanks to unique exterior styling with redesigned bumpers, a rear lip and diffuser, unique AMG wheels, and a new grille. Similarly, interior changes will be made, including the fitment of AMG seats with individual graphics, AMG-specific functions and displays for the MBUX screen and various other options.

The first of these high-performance electric Mercedes-AMG models will launch this year.
