A Tesla Model 3 has been badly damaged and a man was hurt following a crash in Chengdu, the capital of China’s Sichuan province.

Images taken from the scene and published by Car News China reveal that the black Tesla crashed into a pedestrian overpass. Local authorities note that a 51-year-old man was driving the Model 3 at the time and lost control of it due to “improper operation.”

It is understood that the Tesla hit a man riding an electric bicycle, injuring him and prompting authorities to take him to hospital. Fortunately, he did not sustain serious injuries.

We’re no crash investigators but it appears as though the Model 3 first made contact with a steel railing to the left of the stairs. It then appears to have slid up the concrete before coming to a few steps up the walkway.

The entire front fascia of the Tesla was destroyed in the crash. In fact, the car is unrecognizable from the front and is missing its bumper and headlights. The windshield was also smashed and there’s little doubt that some damage has also been sustained to the underside. Evidently, the car won’t be returning to the roads but, more importantly, it driver was not injured.
