Nissan unveiled the GT-R all the way back in 2007, and any way you slice it, 14 years is an eternity in the automotive world.
The Japanese automaker has constantly upgraded it, but deep down, the GT-R remains the same brute that conquered the supercar world when it first came out.
Take this 2021 GT-R Nismo for instance, which features the turbos from the GT3 racer and boasts faster gear changes than its predecessor. It also gets carbon ceramic brakes for improved stopping power, a refined suspension that provides a smoother ride and helps it corner better, and extra aero.

The twin turbocharged 3.8-liter V6 engine pumps out 600 HP and 481 lb-ft (652 Nm) of torque. Nissan didn’t release the 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) time, but some of those who drove the 2021 GT-R Nismo, including former Top Gear co-presenter Rory Reid, claimed that it feels like it can hit the mark in less than 3 seconds.
Since it is almost one and a half decades old, the GT-R’s interior feels outdated, but at least the infotainment system is said to work really well and the analogue gauges instead of a modern screen do suit its nature. Overall, the Godzilla feels very mechanical, much more so than some of its newer rivals, and in our books that’s a good thing. But is it still relevant in today’s landscape or should Nissan finally pull the plug on it?
