Despite creating a few one-offs, like an E30 M3 and, more recently, an X7 Pickup, BMW has never made a production pickup truck.

However, one group of students must have really wanted one for themselves, so they swapped the front end of an E30 3-Series onto a Toyota Tacoma.

The project was created by students from the Shelby County Career Tech Education Center (CTEC) in Alabama. They took the out-of-commission 2001 Tacoma and fitted it with the front clip from a 1987 BMW 325i, which was also said to be nonfunctional. Where the idea to perform this swap came from is unclear, but it’s just nice to see this kind of creativity at work. And apparently, the Alabama Auto Show seems to think so as well, as they will have the pickup on display at their 2021 exhibition later this month.

On top of that, the finished product looks surprisingly nice, and the craftsmanship also appears pretty sound. Despite the differences in styling, the boxy 3-Series front doesn’t look too out of place on the curvier Tacoma, and the students even got the BMW’s shoulder line to carry over into the Toyota’s doors.

We reckon that if they had done the rear as well, this could easily pass for a full BMW pickup. And aside from some questionable elements such as the Punisher skull inner headlights, we feel this job couldn’t have been executed any better.
