Every so often, we get a reminder that racing is a pretty dangerous sport. Whether it be stock-car racing, Formula 1, or drag racing, the danger is real. This video kind of goes some way to put that into perspective.
Granted, safety for both competitors and spectators has come a long way over the years. However, the danger is still very real and very present — emphasized perfectly by the crowd’s audible shock, as a purple Mustang spears into the timing board in this clip.
Given the ferocity of this accident, there was a very real chance that the driver of this Fox body Mustang, would be seriously injured – or worse. Thankfully, he was able to walk away.

A video on Youtube by TorqueTube SnuffMedia shows a horrifying crash at the 828 Cash Days No Prep event, held at Wilkesboro Dragway. The footage shows @cornbread259 and his heavily modified purple Fox body Mustang ripping down the drag strip before swerving left and smashing into the guard rail.
Pieces of the stricken Mustang can be seen flying across the track, with aftermath shots showing the Mustang looking like a pile of metal that has been cut in half.
Unbelievably, and to everyone’s relief, the driver was lucky enough to walk away from this catastrophic incident completely unharmed and should probably remember to shake the hand of whoever installed the roll cage that saved him from certain instant death.
Unfortunately, not everyone got away scot-free. Reports suggested that a female spectator had a broken arm as a result of flying debris. But thankfully, everyone was able to walk out of the event without life-threatening injuries.
