The 2022 Hummer EV Truck’s (and 2024 Hummer EV SUV) Crabwalk function has garnered a lot of attention since it was announced, and for good reason. But now, we can finally see what the function looks like in traffic.
And I mean that literally. The trucks are stuck in traffic in this new clip sent to TFL Truck and posted to their YouTube channel. The drivers, apparently bored, decided to show off what CrwabWalk can do by moving from side to side in their lane.
The four-wheel steering feature does about what you’d expect, but we’ve only seen in promotional footage before now, so it’s nice to see it in real life.

Back in December, Mike Colville, the Hummer’s “features dude,” said that the function was born out of his experience off-roading. Seen outside Moab, Utah, these trucks appear to be putting that experience to good use.
“When we were deciding to make an off-road vehicle with rear steer on it, I said, ‘Well I had a vehicle with rear steer before.’ We thought about putting a lever on the vehicle that a person could use, but that was way too complicated even for rock crawl drivers,” Colville told the Detroit Free Press late last year. “So we invented CrabWalk that can go either the same or opposite direction as the front wheels.”

The four-wheel steering function won’t just be able to move you from side to side, then. As with most four-wheel steering systems, the front and back wheels will be able to turn in opposite directions in order to help drivers tighten their turning circle. That should be as useful off-road as it is on it when you need to do a U-turn.
The Hummer EV pickup is set to launch this fall with the SUV version expected to arrive in late 2023.
