Better known for its H9 luxo-barge and S9 hybrid hypercar concept, Hongqi has taken another shot at the electric segment with the E-QM5.
Unveiled at the 2021 Shanghai Auto Show, it will join the likes of the E-HS9 zero-emission, luxury SUV and has a distinctive styling, with weird LED lights up front, vertical slats on the closed-off grille that remind of the Roewe Jing Concept, V-shaped taillights and specific logos on the trunk lid.

The E-QM5 can sit four adults inside in great comfort. The electric sedan has four individual seats wrapped in leather and separated by big center armrests, glossy black accents, carbon fiber-effect trim and aluminum. A tablet-like display sits on the dashboard, and by the looks of it, it will be used to control most functions of the car, as we cannot really see any physical buttons, save for the ones on the three spoke steering wheel, the electric parking brake and hazard lights on the center console, and the ones used to operate the power seats and windows.
It’s pretty obvious that Hongqi’s EV is a large vehicle, with the Chinese media stating that it is 5,040 mm (198.4 in) long, 1,910 mm (75.2 in) wide and 1,569 mm (61.8 in) tall. Moreover, its 2,990 mm (117.7 in) wheelbase is actually longer than the BMW 5-Series.
A 55 kWh battery is said to power a 100 kW (136 PS / 134 HP) electric motor that drives the front wheels through a single-speed gearbox. The model has a range of 431 km (286 miles) on the NEDC test cycle, and it is estimated to be priced between 200,000 and 300,000 yuan in China, which equals to ~$30,000-$46,000 at current exchange rates.
