As far as restomods go, oftentimes it’s easy to tell the car’s performance based on its appearance. However, you’d probably never guess that this 1956 Pontiac Star Chief “The Chief” actually cranks out a whopping 900 hp (912 PS / 671 kW).

The car was built by Customs by Kilkeary, and the total cost of the build is said to be in the ballpark of $1 million. Some may be skeptical of that price, but when there’s this much custom work going on, things start to get expensive fast.

The chassis, for instance, was custom designed by Roadster Shop and the body was completely stripped before it was repainted in its current deep blue shade. It also has clever touches like Harley-Davidson headlights and a relocated fuel door behind the taillight, as well as a smaller steering wheel that’s designed to look exactly like the original. That’s barely scratching the surface on all this car’s little details, but it’s precisely those things that set this build apart.

On the inside, the whole interior is upholstered with coffee brown leather and the carpet floor mats are finished in a similar blue to the exterior. No restomod is complete without its share of modern amenities, so the car features power controls for the windows, convertible top, and e-brake, as well as adjustable air suspension to smooth out the ride from its low-profile tires on one-off Evod wheels.

Last, but definitely not least, the car is powered by an LSX V8 engine making around 900 hp (912 PS / 671 kW), and it sends that power to the rear wheels via a 4L80-E 4-speed automatic transmission. It features a Whipple supercharger, LS3 heads, and a host of other custom fabrication work to achieve those figures, and aside from all that, it just plain looks good.

This car is one of those that is truly a rolling piece of art, and if it weren’t for that steep price tag, we’re sure many would happily add it to their garage. For more details, as well as some shots of it firing up and driving, check out the video below.
