Subaru of America today launched a new line of new accessories designed to keep your pets safe in the car.

Much of the line was designed by Sleepypod, whose products are put through stringent safety tests, including static material tensile testing and dynamic crash testing at the standards set for child safety restraints.

The accessories are available on Subaru’s online parts store and at dealerships and include the following:

Pet-Friendly Padded Cargo Liner, Console Lid Protector, Collapsible Pet Kennel, Pet-Friendly Padded Seat Protector, Pet Ramp, Sleepypod Pet Harness, Sleepypod Pet Carrier and Mobile Pet Bed, Sleepypod Pet Travel Bowl, Seat Cover – Rear, Rear Bumper Protector Mat, and Pet Lover License Plate Frames.

While the importance of pet restraints may not be immediately obvious to some, rear-end collisions are some of the most common, which makes having a pet in the trunk a danger.

Pets are also a distraction in the car. Pet Pro Supply Co reports that 52% of dog owners say they have pet their dog while driving, 17% say they’ve let their dog sit in their lap while driving, and 13% admitted to giving their dog a treat while driving. Unfortunately, distracted driving could lead to more accidents.

Ensuring that your pet is well restrained in the car and that your upholstery is well protected from your pet is important. Especially for the brand that puts on the puppy bowl every year.

“Protecting pets is a key component of our Subaru Loves Pets commitment, and that includes protecting pets on the road,” said Joe Daugherty, Director – Accessories, Subaru of America. “At Subaru, we know that pets are part of the family, and as our owners head out for warmer weather adventures with furry friends in tow, we want to keep them safe and comfortable for the ride.”
