The Taycan was the German marque’s first all-electric production vehicle, but it is the electric variant of the Macan that will likely prove to be Porsche’s most popular EV.

We know that the electric Macan will be based on the VW Group’s Premium Platform Electric (PPE) architecture and will share its 800-volt architecture with the Taycan. Importantly, Porsche claims that the electric Macan will have “significantly” more range than the Taycan.

In the U.S., the 2021 Taycan 4S has an EPA-estimated range of 227 miles, which falls short of the competition. While it is unclear exactly how much range the electric Macan will have, a figure beyond the 300-mile (482 km) mark could be on the cards, Car and Driver suggests.

Porsche will sell the electric Macan with two different sizes of battery packs but as the majority of Taycan owners in the U.S. have chosen the larger battery pack, it’s possible that only the Macan equipped with the largest battery will be offered locally.

From a visual standpoint, Porsche’s executive board member for development, Michael Steiner, has confirmed that the electric Macan will look quite different from the standard model. Recent ‘spy shots’ released by Porsche have revealed the electric model will include a unique front fascia that lacks a traditional grille.

As previously reported, Porsche will sell the all-electric Macan alongside an ICE model for a number of years. That’s due to the lack of EV infrastructure in certain markets as well as concerns that some of them are not yet ready for a switch to electric powertrains only.
