Chevrolet is putting the finishing touches on the facelifted 2022 Silverado 1500, but the company hasn’t forgotten about the 2500 HD and 3500 HD.
Quite the opposite as the heavy duty trucks are gaining a new Multi-Flex Tailgate. Lifted from their more mainstream counterpart, the Multi-Flex Tailgate offers six unique functions and will be available on all 2022 Silverado HDs.
The Multi-Flex Tailgate folds down like a traditional tailgate, but features load stops that flip up to secure long items. When the tailgate is down, the upper section – known as the inner gate – can be folded to create a step to improve access to the bed.

When the tailgate is in the upright position, the inner gate can be folded down to create a workspace. If you’re more concerned about hauling cargo, the inner gate features load stops that help to prevent stacked items – such as 2x4s – from sliding out of the bed.
Additional changes are limited, but the 2022 Silverado HDs also gain a revised color palette that includes new Greenstone Metallic.
The 2022 Silverado HDs will be available this summer and will presumably feature a familiar engine lineup that includes a 6.6-liter V8 petrol producing 401 hp (299 kW / 407 PS) and 464 lb-ft (629 Nm) of torque. Customers can also look forward to a 6.6-liter Duramax turbodiesel which develops 445 hp (332 kW / 451 PS) and 910 lb-ft (1,234 Nm) of torque.
