Our spy photographers have snapped the 2022 Mercedes-AMG SL undergoing a host of tests in Europe and recently, a YouTuber snapped one being put through its paces in Beverly Hills.
It’s fitting that the car was spotted in and around Beverly Hills as when it launches, it will likely prove to be very popular among the elites of Los Angeles. It’s also impossible to ignore just how much more modern the car looks when compared to the outgoing SL.

Despite the camouflage adorning every exterior surface, we can see that the new SL will feature a set of angular taillights not dissimilar to those of other new-age Mercedes models like the CLS. This prototype also sports quad tailpipes and was rolling on a set of black wheels with a unique spoke design. The front fascia also looks much more sleek and aggressive than the old car. Key styling features visible include pronounced lines on the hood, bulging front wheel arches, and sharp headlights with incorporated LED daytime running lights.
The development of the new SL is being led by Mercedes-AMG and when it launches, it will replace the AMG GT Roadster. With this in mind, it will be more performance-oriented than its predecessor.
A plethora of different engines will be offered with the new Mercedes-AMG SL and this prototype is obviously an SL 63 model with a twin-turbocharged V8. A handful of four and six-cylinder engines are also expected, as is a flagship SL 73e model with the company’s flagship twin-turbo V8 hybrid powertrain that produces upwards of 800 hp.
