The Mercedes-Benz EQS was unveiled last month and already the German car manufacturer is testing a performance-focused AMG variant.
Our spy photographers recently snapped this EQS testing near the Nurburgring and while it may not look very different to the standard model, on closer inspection you will notice a few unique features.
Most notably, Mercedes-AMG has outfitted the vehicle with carbon-ceramic brakes and AMG-branded gold brake calipers. In addition, the test car has a lower ride height.

The prototype also sports light camouflage across part of the front fascia, indicating that it will feature a unique faux grille to differentiate it from other EQS models. Similarly, we can see a slightly different rear end with a subtle lip spoiler. Compared to an S63 AMG or S65 AMG, however, the visual alterations made over the standard EQS are rather subdued.
Our sources suggest that a handful of AMG variants will be offered as Mercedes has registered names including EQS43, EQS53, and EQS63. Of those, the EQS63 will obviously be the flagship and it could pump out upwards of 715 hp.
As a reminder, the EQS rides on a new dedicated EV platform and customers will be able to choose either a 90 kWh or a 107.8 kWh battery pack. The automaker has only released power figures relating to the larger battery that see the single-electric motor EQS 450 produce 329 hp and 419 lb-ft while the EQS 580 with its two electric motors delivers 516 hp and 630 lb-ft.
