The Bugatti Chiron is rightfully regarded as one of the most remarkable hypercars ever launched, thanks in part to the fact that its 8.0-liter quad-turbocharged W16 engine pumps out 1,478 hp. That’s a serious figure but as it turns out, it is less than half the horsepower that this Gen II Dodge Viper has on tap.

Ever since 2012, this Viper has been the world’s fastest having recorded a best quarter-mile time of 6.96 seconds. Now, fast forward to 2021 and the 18-year-old son of the car’s owner has just set a new record.

Comprehensive modifications have been made to the large-capacity V10 although it does retain the standard 8.0-liter engine’s block. Bolted on are a pair of 88 mm turbochargers from Garrett working alongside a plethora of other modifications that result in 3,200 hp. Yes, 3,200 hp on a car that is street legal.

The owner, Sal Patel, recently started to allow his 18-year-old son Milan to drive the car. However, prior to a recent drag racing event, Milan had only ever driven it down the 1/8th mile. Not discouraged, he quickly got used to running the quarter-mile and ended up posting a best time of 6.956 seconds at 202.67 mph (326.16 km/h), snatching the record away from his father.

While it’s a real shame that the Dodge Viper is no longer produced, it is fantastic to see how enthusiastic many owners are keeping the heritage of the Viper alive. In a world of electrification, vehicles like the Viper are becoming unicorns.
