As the Lucid Air continues its slow march to production, the company is giving us a look at its user experience known as the Lucid UX.
The centerpiece is a 34-inch curved display called the “Glass Cockpit.” It’s broken up into three different sections and features a 5K resolution.
The left part of the display is home to vehicle controls such as lights, windshield wipers and window defrosters. It doesn’t sound terribly exciting, but key controls will be within easy reach.
The center section is a high-tech digital instrument cluster, which has a “clutter-free” design focused on showing what you need to know – speed and range. However, when certain DreamDrive driver assistance systems are activated, the cluster transforms into a “three-dimensional depiction of the Lucid Air and the other vehicles around it on the road.”
The third and final section handles infotainment functions and it’s focused on navigation, media and communications. The company didn’t go into many details, but noted the system features Amazon’s Alexa as well as Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility. Users can also access streaming media services such as Spotify and iHeartRadio.
Below, the Air has a Pilot Panel that displays climate controls and seat functions. Users will also be able to swipe menus from the Glass Cockpit to the Pilot Panel to see more information and settings. However, its most notable feature is the ability to retract and allow access to a storage space behind the screen.
Lucid went on to say the colors shown on the displays are color-matched to the interior and note the displays will be able to receive over-the-air updates to gain new features. Owners will also be able to use a smartphone app that allows them to “view charge status, check and set the climate controls, and pre-load navigation journeys from anywhere.”
Deliveries of the Air are slated to begin later this year and the EV will be available in a variety of configurations ranging from an entry-level Pure variant with 408 hp (304 kW / 402 PS) and 406 miles (653 km) of range to a Dream Edition boasting 1,080 hp (805 kW / 1,095 PS) and a projected range of 503 miles (810 km).
