Car manufacturers first created launch control systems to improve the acceleration of their vehicles. However, such systems aren’t idiot-proof, as this video reveals.

This clip was recently shared to Reddit and quickly generated almost 40,000 upvotes. However, this video actually first hit the web three years ago but is still interesting.

It was filmed outside a car meet in Paramus, New Jersey and as is so often the case with motorists leaving events like these, the driver of this Porsche 911 probably felt the need to put on a show. He did put on a show alright, although it sure wasn’t the one he was hoping for.

As the driver waits to merge onto a highway, he engages the launch control system of the German sports car. He pins the throttle and takes off, although the 911 didn’t get a great launch and span up its rear wheels. As the driver was merging onto the highway, he can be seen steering to the right (with just one hand on the wheel) but the 911 kicks out its tail to the right. It ultimately slides off the road and crashes into a barrier on the side of the road.

It doesn’t seem as though the car would have suffered much damage. As for the driver, we hope this crash has taught him a valuable lesson .
