It has been quite some time since the Nissan Z Proto was unveiled and in this video from Byron Glover Jr. of the Drive615 channel, we are offered a comprehensive tour of both its exterior and interior.

While the new Nissan Z is viewed as a rival to the Toyota Supra, Nissan has gone about things in a very different way than Toyota. This is perhaps most evident with the exterior design that has been heavily inspired by previous Z models, in particular icons such as the 240Z. Creating retro designs like this can be a bit hit and miss, but we think Nissan has nailed it with the Z Proto.

The front end of the car is particularly striking and includes headlights with sharp and curved lines and a pronounced rectangular front grille. It is this grille that has perhaps been the most controversial area of the exterior design and has certainly divided opinions.

We’re also particularly fond of the Z Proto’s rear end that includes taillights inspired by the 300ZX albeit now using LEDs.

Then there’s the interior. The presenter of this video mentions that he is 6’5’ and is surprised to find that he has a couple of inches of headroom in the compact sports car. Admittedly, his legs do seem to be quite cramped. Nevertheless, it is good to know that the new Nissan Z offers just enough room for taller drivers.

Nissan could unveil the production-ready model in the second half of this year and based on recent images, it appears as though it will look virtually identical to this prototype.
