Following a teaser last week, Subaru has introduced the 2022 Ascent Onyx Edition.
Based on the Ascent Premium, the Onyx Edition starts at $37,995 and features a blacked out exterior with a black grille, black window trim and 20-inch alloy wheels with a black finish.
The special touches continue in the cabin as the Onyx Edition has water-repellant StarTex seats with silver contrast stitching. Buyers will also find special floor mats as well as additional equipment including a heated leather steering wheel and a keyless access system with a push-button ignition. The model also gains an auto-dimming rearview mirror with HomeLink, a hands-free power liftgate and reverse automatic braking.

Since the model is based on the Ascent Premium, it also comes equipped with an 8-way power driver seat, heated front seats and an 8-inch infotainment system. Other highlights include second-row captain chairs and a tri-zone automatic climate control system.
On the safety front, there’s an assortment of driver assistance systems including adaptive cruise control with lane centering as well as a blind-spot detection system with lane change assist and rear cross-traffic alert. The model also has steering responsive LED headlights with high beam assist.
Only one option will be available on the Onyx Edition and it’s a $2,200 package that includes a panoramic moonroof, a retractable cargo cover and GPS navigation.
Like the standard Ascent, the Onyx Edition is powered by a turbocharged 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 260 hp (194 kW / 264 PS) and 277 lb-ft (376 Nm) of torque. It’s connected to a continuously variable transmission and a symmetrical all-wheel drive system.
The Onyx Edition will arrive at U.S. dealerships this summer and be joined by the 2022 Ascent, which carries over with pricing unchanged.
Note: Prices exclude a destination and delivery fee of $1,125 or $1,275
