While you may not think that the Rolls-Royce Boat Tail is worth the $28 million asking price, it’s impossible to deny that its design is very intriguing. What does Frank Stephenson think of it?

The world-renowned automotive designer starts off by analyzing the front fascia of the Boat Tail and immediately makes mention of the grille. While it has the same vertical slats that other Rolls-Royce models have featured over the decades, the grille is less pronounced than other models from the car manufacturer. Stephenson is also particularly fond of the narrow LED headlights that Rolls-Royce has created exclusively for the Boat Tail.

The front end of the car is also interesting as it is largely free of obvious cut lines that make it appear as though the front fascia has been carved from a single piece of alloy. Stephenson then looks at the side profile of the Boat Tail and notes how the roof tapers down slowly while the underside gently tapers upwards as you move towards the rear, somewhat mimicking the design of a boat.

Stephenson isn’t quite so fond of the rear. He says that the taillights are too small and don’t look proportionate to the rest of the exterior.

The designer sums up the Boat Tail as the ultimate statement of “relaxed ultra-luxury” and believes the design will remain desirable for many generations to come. He ultimately gives its design a 7 out of 10, well behind the likes of the Honda e with its 10 out of 10 and the Bugatti Bolide with a 9.9.
