Just a couple of months after the VW ID.4 GTX was launched, the all-electric SUV has been put through its paces on the Autobahn.

Like the entry-level variant of the VW ID.4, the GTX model uses an electric motor with 201 hp that drives the rear wheels but it also features a second motor powering the front wheels that combines to deliver 295 hp. VW’s official claim is that the car can hit 62 mph (100 km/h) in a respectable 6.2 seconds.

While testing out the SUV, Automann-TV was able to match this time, setting a best time of 6.22 seconds in the sprint to 62 mph when the battery was at 84 per cent state of charge.

The YouTuber then headed onto the Autobahn to test out the vehicle’s top speed. VW claims that it is limited to 112 mph (180 km/h) and when tested, the ID.4 GTX did indeed hit an electronic limiter, although it was at 115 mph (185 km/h) as displayed on the instrument panel but that probably comes in at 112 mph if measured by GPS.

The presenter comments positively on the performance offered up by the electric VW, particularly given its size and weight. He is also impressed with how it handles.

In addition to featuring a second electric motor, the ID.4 GTX has a 77 kWh battery pack compared to the 58 kWh battery of lesser models. Despite this bigger battery, the GTX’s WLTP-rated range sits at 298 miles (479 km) compared to the 310 miles (499 km) of the standard model.
