LEVC (London Electric Vehicle Company) is best-known for building taxis, but the company has been branching out into other areas such as commercial vans.

The Geely-owned automaker is now going even further as they’ve released the first details about their upcoming e-Camper.

Looking to cash in on post-pandemic travel, the e-Camper is based on the VN5 and features a familiar design. However, it adopts rear side windows, and a pop-up roof that sleeps two and allows people to stand inside.

Speaking of the interior, the model features an electric kitchenette and a second-row bench seat that transforms into a double bed. The rear bench also slides back to maximize interior space, while the front seats can be swiveled 180 degrees to face rear passengers. Other highlights include a central folding table and some classy looking cabinetry.

LEVC didn’t go into many specifics, but confirmed the van has a range-extended powertrain that “allows owners to travel off the beaten track, where there is no or limited charging infrastructure.” It promises to provide over 60 miles (98 km) of EV-only range as well as an overall range of 304 miles (489 km).

While the company was coy on details, the e-Camper likely has the same powertrain as the VN5. This means we can expect a 1.5-liter petrol engine and a rear-mounted electric motor that is powered by a 31 kWh battery pack.

It remains to be seen if consumers will embrace an electrified camper van that resembles a taxi, but LEVC CEO Joerg Hofmann said “The camper van market is growing rapidly and, despite these vehicles being used for coastal and countryside adventures … they are still powered by petrol or diesel engines.” He went on to say this is a “major conflict” and their e-Camper is the “perfect solution” as it will come “well-equipped with high quality features that can be tailored to meet a range of customer requirements.”

While a number of questions remain, the e-Camper will be launched late this year and cost £62,250 / €73,000 – excluding VAT.
