The 2022 Toyota Land Cruiser, along with the rest of the automotive world it seems, has had to downsize. With no more V8s offered in the range, the option of a pair of twin-turbo V6s may disappoint some. Those who buy it, though, won’t be disappointed by the power they get.
The new Land Cruiser was tested on EKanooRacing’s dynamometer, and the tuners found that the petrol engine was producing 370 hp (375 PS/275 kW) at the wheels, which is a pretty solid amount.
Although Toyota quoted a figure of 409 hp (415 PS/305 kW) and 479 lb-ft (650 Nm) of torque for the 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 of the new Land Cruiser, that figure was measured at the crank. A rule of thumb is that you should expect a 10-15 percent loss of power from the crank to the wheels, although these are some of the more conservative estimates and powertrain loss varies from car to car.

If we take that as a rough guide for what to expect, though, Toyota owners should be pleased. Losing 39 hp (39.5 PS/29 kW) from the crank to the wheels amounts to a 9.5 percent powertrain loss, which seems great for an AWD vehicle like this. Even more interestingly, with an octane booster in the gas tank, the Land Cruiser churned out a reading of 377 hp (382PS/281 kW) at the wheels.
All of which is likely plenty for any normal person’s needs on the road or on the trail. It is not, however, enough for EKanooRacing, as the tuner aims to get that rating all the way up to 500 hp at the wheels.
The 300 Series Land Cruiser debuted on June 9 and, along with the gasoline engine, is offered with a 3.3-liter twin-turbo diesel V6 that makes 304 hp (309 ps/227 kW) and 516 lb-ft (700 Nm) of torque. A GR Sport model is on its way, but details have not yet been announced.
