Italian design house Pininfarina has been tapped to design an all-electric pickup truck from Detroit startup Hercules Electric Vehicles.
The first vehicle from Hercules will be dubbed the Alpha and has been previewed with a handful of design sketches. Very few details of the partnership have been announced but it is understood that Pininfarina will design the Alpha, plus a host of other models for the car manufacturer.
“Pininfarina is the world’s foremost designers of performance and luxury automotive products with over 90 years of experience designing vehicles for Ferrari, Maserati, and Alfa Romeo. We wanted to engage the best to create a truly unique and differentiated product in our Alpha,” Hercules founder and chief executive James Breyer said in a statement.

Hercules Electric Vehicles was founded in 2018 and plans to start producing the Alpha pickup in 2022. While you may not have heard of the company before, Breyer has a wealth of experience in the automotive industry and has worked as the lead propulsion development engineer for the Chevrolet Spark and lead powertrain development engineer for the Chevrolet Volt.
“Pininfarina has always been at the forefront of electric mobility,” added senior vice president of sales & marketing at Pininfarina, Giuseppe Bonollo, said. “We bring to this new venture with a North American partner our ability to develop a new design language having in mind both our client’s brand identity and our shared commitment to environmental sustainability.”
It is understood that the Hercules Alpha will be based around the Nissan Titan but use the company’s own powertrain technology and pump out as much as 1,000 hp.
