2022 Toyota Tundra Teases Power Sliding Rear Window And Massive Moonroof

The teaser campaign for the 2022 Toyota Tundra continues as the company has promised the redesigned truck will expand the “possibilities for adventure when it is fully unveiled later this fall.”

While that’s months away, the automaker released a new video of the interior and it reveals the truck will have a rear window that slides down.  We can also see a panoramic moonroof as well as red leather or SofTex seats with matching seat belts.

There isn’t much else to see, but the truck features a sculpted ceiling to help maximize headroom for rear seat passengers. There also appears to be speakers and microphones mounted in the headliner.

The latest video builds on a previous teaser, which showed the truck will have a widescreen infotainment system as well as a perforated leather steering wheel with a red center stripe. Other highlights should include a new overhead console and a rearview mirror with HomeLink.

Of course, the exterior design isn’t much of a surprise as it was leaked last month. Toyota followed up by releasing an official picture of the Tundra TRD Pro, which has a massive grille and an LED light bar. The pickup also sports LED headlights, muscular fenders and a dynamic beltline. Rounding out the highlights are blacked out A-pillars, rock rails and black TRD wheels wrapped in meaty tires.

Toyota has been tight-lipped about specifications, but officials have previously said the truck will be offered with two new engines. The entry-level unit promises to produce “substantially” more power and torque than the current 5.7-liter V8, which develops 381 hp (284 kW / 386 PS) and 401 lb-ft (544 Nm) of torque. It could be a version of the Land Cruiser’s twin-turbo 3.5-liter V6 that has 409 hp (305 kW / 415 PS) and 479 lb-ft (650 Nm) of torque.

That remains to be seen and so does the second powertrain, which promises to ‘blow people away.’ It’s expected to be a hybrid or plug-in hybrid variant as Toyota has already confirmed plans to “bring electrification to its pickup truck lineup in the near future.”
