Ever since the new Ford Bronco made its debut, we’ve been waiting to see a side-by side comparison with the Jeep Wrangler, its biggest, and frankly only, direct competition. Now we finally finally have one, but the real question is: how does the new kid on the block stack up against the reigning king of the hill? That’s what Throttle House attempts to find out in their latest video as they put the two through a series of tests both on and off-road.

The comparison is between two similarly-equipped models: a Bronco Wildtrak and a Wrangler Rubicon. And while the Wrangler does have more power in its 4xe guise, both SUVs have comparable off-roading capabilities.

In the limited on-road driving they did, the Bronco was much more composed thanks to its independent front suspension, but what everyone wants to see is how they compare off-road. Throttle House’s comparison included a good range of tests, with things like steep climbs on loose terrain, articulation, articulation tests, and water fording among other things. While the two SUVs certainly got put through their paces, the trail didn’t really see either vehicle get caught up, which is a testament to their capabilities off the beaten path.

In the end, they felt the Bronco just barely edged out the Wrangler, as while both displayed similar levels of capability, the Ford did it with more comfort and ease. That being said, there’s still one comparison left on the table between these two, and that’s the one that compares their most off-road capable packages: the Bronco Sasquatch and the Wrangler Xtreme Recon (the former has that package in this video, but the latter does not).

We’d love to see that comparison happen sometime in the near future, but for now you can watch Throttle House’s current one below.
